Continue reading »]]> Even as Adobe is pushing its Creative Cloud service in India, it has been revealed that the company is all set to phase out physical, boxed versions of its Creative Suite and Acrobat Software in favour of digital copies of the same.

Adobe confirmed that physical copies of the Creative Suite will indeed be disappearing from stores soon. “As Adobe continues to focus on delivering world-class innovation through Creative Cloud and digital fulfillment, we will be phasing out shrink-wrapped, boxed versions of Creative Suite and Acrobat products,” the company said. “Electronic downloads for Creative Suite and Acrobat products will continue to be available – as they are today – from both Adobe.com, as well as reseller and retail partners. We are in the process of notifying our channel partners and customers, as plans solidify in each region.”

Goodbye, Adobe Boxes

Rumours suggest that it could be as early as May 1 this year that the company will be pulling out physical copies of its software, but Adobe has not confirmed this. The maker of vital publishing software such as Photoshop and InDesign will be adopting the digital model of distribution completely. Whispers about Adobe’s digital move began earlier this month with the company’s resellers Toolfarm and Softwaremedia blogging that they will not be selling boxed Adobe sets post May 1, 2013.

With affordable Internet connections becoming more and more accessible, it seems like a smart although surprising move on Adobe’s part to shift completely to digital downloads. The move will also help curb piracy of Adobe’s software to a certain extent.

One trigger to move to the digtal mode of distribution could be the recent Australian Adobe debacle where it was revealed that buying the company’s software was a highly expensive affair. According to reports, it was cheaper to buy a round trip to the U.S. from Australia to purchase a copy of Adobe’s software than to purchase them locally.

In India, Adobe has only just announced the availability of its Creative Cloud service for as little as Rs 2885 a month. Getting a membership to the Creative Cloud service will give you access to download and install all Creative Suite desktop applications, Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Muse, Adobe Edge tools and services along with game developer tools and integration with Photoshop Touch apps.

Creative Cloud members will get access to Adobe’s latest products, services, features and workflows as soon as they are available and will no longer have to wait months for the latest Adobe tools, the company said. This model will enable members to automatically receive updates as and when they become available in the release cycle.

Great move, Adobe, but we will miss the novelty of purchasing those large, colourful Creative Suite boxes.

How can I convert my AVCHD footage to an easier high definition format to edit in Adobe Premiere Elements 10? http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/encode-avchd-to-premiere-elements-10/ http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/encode-avchd-to-premiere-elements-10/#respond Wed, 06 Mar 2013 03:22:26 +0000 http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/?p=480

Continue reading »]]> Although it is clarified that “Adobe Premiere Elements 11.0 supports DV, HDV, WDM, and AVCHD formatted video”, many Elements users are experiencing problems with importing AVCHD footage to the well-known post-production video editor. Here are some questions put up in the Adobe forum.

“I am trying to set up a project in Premiere Elements 10 using AVCHD .mts video files imported from my Sony Nex-5N camera. These files are 1080p 24fps. I am unable to find any preset setting that matches these specs. The AVCHD presets are all  either 1080i at 30fps, or 720p at 24fps. There is a 1080p 24fps setting under the “DSLR” presets, but I have no idea what codec “DSLR” refers to and assume it is not AVCHD.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I’m running a Core 2 duo 2ghz Mac Mini, so I don’t have tons of processing power. I’m most interested in simply viewing footage and making selects at this stage, rather than actually editing, so I would prefer to avoid transcoding my footage for now.

“I’m considering buying a Sony NEX-VG20, and I can’t find information on whether Premiere Elements 10.0 can import it’s files. The VG20 video format is AVCHD 2.0 (MPEG-4 AVC(H.264)), 1920×1080 @ 60p/24//60i. If Premiere Elements can’t import the files directly, is there a work-around?”

“How can I convert my AVCHD footage to an easier high definition format to edit? We are using Adobe Elements 10 and it seems that some AVCHD .mts video from Sony Handycam do not load to AE.”

Adobe Premiere Elements 10 includes amazing new tools that take the work out of video editing and let users focus on making incredible home movies. It supports a wide range of video formats for importing, such as 3GPP (.3gp, .3g2), Adobe Shockwave Flash (.swf), Audio Video Interleave (.avi), AVCHD (.m2ts, .mts), DV stream (.dv), H.264 (.mp4, .m4v), H.264-encoded QuickTime (.mov, .mp4, .m4v), MOD (.mod), MPEG-1 (.m1v, .mpeg, .mpe), MPEG-2 (.m2v, .mp2, .mpg), MPEG-2 Transport Stream (.m2t), QuickTime (.mov), TOD (.tod), Video Object (DVD video) (.vob), Windows Media (.wmv), Windows Media Advanced Systems Format (.asf).

Basically, I would not recommend using AVCHD 60p or 24p with the current versions of Premiere Elements, civex. But AVCHD 60i should work just fine. Even if Premiere can Import some of these files with other CODEC’s inside, there are very often problems. Some common ones are OOS (Out Of Sync) issues, no Audio, no Video, horribly pixelated Video, partial display of Video or Video and Audio that halt, or stutter. Some users who want to edit their AVCHD footage in Adobe Premiere Elements 10 indeed encounter such problems, due to this, if you have already taken AVCHD footage in 60p or 24p, a preferable workaround is encoding AVHCD .mts/.m2ts files to MPG/MOV/WMV or other editable formats. In the following paragraphs I’ll show you how to transcode Panasonic/Sony/Canon AVCHD files to MPG for importing to Adobe Premiere Elements 10.

Premiere Pro Workflow: How to Import Media Files to Premiere Pro on Mac http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/how-to-import-media-files-to-premiere-pro-on-mac/ http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/how-to-import-media-files-to-premiere-pro-on-mac/#respond Wed, 23 Jan 2013 10:59:56 +0000 http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/?p=443

Continue reading »]]> The first step to starting a project in Adobe Premiere Pro is getting your media files into this editorial system. No matter what kind of project you’re doing, if you can’t import media, you will get stuck. In this article, you’ll learn about importing media files to Premiere Pro on Mac.

Overall, you can import media files into Adobe Premiere Pro in three ways:

  • 1. Standard importing by choosing File Import
  • 2. The Media Browser panel
  • 3. Adobe Bridge

1. Standard importing

Standard importing is probably the most straightforward type of importing you can do. To import any file, choose File  Import. If you prefer to use keyboard shortcuts, press Command+I to open the standard Import dialog.

The Standard OS X Import dialog; note the search box in the upper-right corner.

Adobe Premiere Pro Likes Most Formats. You’ll find that it can handle pretty much any file format you can throw at it. Don’t ever be afraid to import a file to see if a clip can be used. If your media files are not compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro, simply transcode those clips to a format that is well supported by Premiere Pro using a video converter tool such as Pavtube iMedia Converter for Mac.

2. Using the Media Browser

The flexibility of Media Browser makes it superior to the standard file system import. Not only does it display the files in a straight list, but it also adjusts the view using the metadata. Being able to see this metadata makes it far easier to select from long lists of files or shots.

The Media Browser has the capability to display clips and cards from popular formats like P2 and XDCAM.

Adobe Premiere Pro’s Media Browser automatically recognizes camera media, meaning that if you navigate into a directory of XDCAM, P2, or Red files (amongst others), it will auto recognize the footage. This makes it easy to use and adjust metadata from the field.

3. Adobe Bridge

Most people encounter Adobe Bridge via Adobe Photoshop. In case you’ve never used it, it’s a dynamic media browser – think of it as a file browser on steroids. It’s a media browser that is optimized (right now) mostly for still photography, but has loads of power for video users.

Adobe Bridge is a versatile program in its own right. Notice Filtering on the left side and Video Metadata on the right side.

You can manually open Adobe Bridge by clicking its application icon. You can also choose File  Browse in Bridge to automatically launch Adobe Bridge and point it to the same directory that the Media Browser is viewing.

The only downside to Adobe Bridge is that it doesn’t recognize all formats. It handles images and QuickTime files just fine, but it doesn’t recognize file-based cameras or image sequences. For those formats, use the Media Browser.
