We all know that the recordings’ format of Canon LEGRIA HF G25 is the AVCHD which delivers stunning picture quality. Vixia camcorders recorded video format is AVCHD MTS, and this format is also used in Canon XA10 and other popular high-end camcorders. However, if you want to deinterlace and edit Canon LEGRIA HF G25 MTS 1080i in iMovie 9 or FCE 4, you will meet some problems. MTS format is not easy to use as it’s not well supported by many editing software, especially on Mac. Currently neither iMovie 9 nor FCE 4 supports the original MTS footages from HF G25, that’s why you cannot import Canon AVCHD MTS files to FCE/iMovie.

The common practice for MTS workflow with FCE/iMovie is, get a Mac AVCHD Converter for iMovie/FCE and transcode Canon LEGRIA HF G25 MTS footage to AIC(Apple Intermediate Codec), the well-acknowledged optimal editing format for iMovie 9 and FCE 4. By converting .MTS files to Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC)(*.mov) you save both time and trouble, as AIC video will be processed by FCE4 and iMovie naturally without rendering, and all you need is drag and drop the result video for prompt editing.

Here we recommend you to choose a top Pavtube MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac to transfer these AVCHD recordings for iMovie 9 or FCE 4 editing.

First, Free Download the Mac Canon MTS Converter for iMovie/FCE. This software can convert Canon LEGRIA HF G25 MTS video to iMovie, FCE compatible formats or other common formats.

Step 1. Install and Run the professional Mac Canon AVCHD to MOV Converter, add .mts files into it from Canon HF G25. If you want to batch convert MTS clips, please check “Merge into one”.

Step 2. Click “Format” column to choose the output format for iMovie. Click and choose “iMovie and Final Cut Express -> Apple InterMediate Codec (AIC) (*.mov)“, it’s the best format for iMovie – to import Canon LEGRIA HF G25 MTS to iMovie or FCE.

Step 3. If you want to change the video/audio settings to get a file as you want, you can tick “Settings” to freely selecting or editing. Here I advice you to set your video size as 1920*1080 and fame rate as 25fps if your resource file is 1080 50i/25p.

Step 4. Click “Convert” button to start transcoding Canon LEGRIA HF G25 AVCHD MTS to AIC MOV. Once finished, click “Open” button to get the generated AIC MOV files for using in iMovie 9 or FCE 4 without any rendering or compatibility issue.

So the first problem you have to solve is to deinterlace/transcode Canon LEGRIA HF G25 AVCHD to AIC the most compatible codec which is specially designed for editing in iMovie 9 or FCE 4.

I need to be able to convert the MVI to AVI or WMV files so that the movie clips I take can be used seamlessly in the DVD program….”

Movie clips taken with EOS 5D Mark II, IXUS 130, Power Shot SX 200IS and many other Canon cameras are normally saved as MVI_xxxx files. These MVI files are actually Motion-JPEG/H.264 encoded video with .AVI or .MOV as file extension. The SD MVI videos shooting at 640×480 end up as .avi files and HD MVI files at 1280×720 or full HD 1920×1080 .mov files. H.264 .mov is a processing intensive format that does not playback or edit very well, while M-JPEG .avi is not compatible with Quicktime and iMovie 11. The solution to this is to use Pavtube MVI Video Converter to decode the files when converting into a different, and ideally more edit friendly, compression format.

Transcode solutions with the Canon MVI Converter:

To play MVI in Windows Media Player, convert MVI video to WMV format;

To import MVI to Windows Movie Maker/DVD Creator, convert MVI to AVI format;

To add MVI videos to iTunes/QuickTime player, convert MVI to MP4 format;

To use MVI movies in iMovie/Final Cut Express, transcode MVI to Apple Intermediate Codec;

To edit MVI footage in Final Cut Pro, transfer MVI to Apple ProRes codec.
